Following a healthy diet and lifestyle is thought to prevent myocardial infarction (MI). However, few large, population-based, prospective studies have examined the long-term benefit of a combined heart-healthy diet and healthy lifestyle on the incidence of MI in men. Therefore, investigators in Sweden assessed “low-risk” diet and lifestyle via questionnaires completed in 1997 by more than 20,000 45- to 79-year-old men without cancer, cardiovascular disease, diabetes mellitus, hypertension, or hyperlipidemia.
