Survival has improved in advanced colorectal cancer (CRC) with the advent of more-active chemotherapy and the use of agents targeting the vascular endothelial growth factor and epidermal growth factor receptor pathways. One first-line chemotherapy standard for CRC patients combines FOLFIRI (fluorouracil, leucovorin, and irinotecan) with bevacizumab. Investigators have now conducted an industry-funded, multicenter, randomized phase III trial (TRIBE) to assess the benefit of adding oxaliplatin to FOLFIRI (FOLFOXIRI) plus bevacizumab in patients with untreated metastatic CRC.
