Very high cure rates are achieved for Hodgkin lymphoma (HL), but survivors remain at risk for late cardiovascular complications and second primary neoplasms. To assess the frequency of third malignancies, investigators in the Netherlands conducted a multicenter, retrospective review of HL survivors who were younger than 51 years of age at initial HL therapy and who were diagnosed between 1965 and 1995.
A total of 3122 HL survivors who were ≥5 years from initial therapy were included in the analysis. The median age at HL diagnosis was 27.3 years. A total of 30% received radiotherapy alone, and 60% received combined radiotherapy plus chemotherapy.
