Genital melanocytic nevi in children are little studied and are usually excluded from large studies of pediatric nevi. Investigators retrospectively reviewed the charts of 1159 patients with melanocytic nevi seen in an academic pediatric dermatology practice over 11 years and identified 40 with a genital nevus as the chief symptom (prevalence, 3.5%).
There were no statistically significant differences in age, sex, number of total nevi, presence of acral or scalp nevi, or family history of dysplastic nevi or melanoma between patients with and without genital nevi.
