Orthostatic hypotension (OH) — an excessive drop in blood pressure after standing up quickly — is associated with an increased risk for falls and fractures when accompanied by symptoms such as dizziness and unsteadiness. The condition has been defined by consensus as a decrease in systolic blood pressure of ≥20 mm Hg or in diastolic blood pressure of ≥10 mm Hg within 3 minutes after standing. However, the prevalence of OH and its variants in the general population is unclear.
