Antipsychotic medications have been associated with worsening of several cardiovascular risk factors, including obesity, hyperlipidemia, and insulin resistance. These investigators studied links between these medications and first acute myocardial infarction (AMI) in a large Taiwanese national database in 1996–2007; the study included 591 AMI patients with schizophrenia and 243 with bipolar disorder.
