Background and Objectives

In 2007, the ACC/AHA published a guideline entitled “Guidelines on Perioperative Cardiovascular Evaluation and Care for Noncardiac Surgery” (J Am Coll Cardiol 2007; 50:e159). Relevant evidence has been published since that time, so a new guideline is appropriate. Additionally, the scientific integrity of a large body of research published by Poldermans et al. in the Netherlands was challenged in 2011; that research informed the 2007 guideline, but not this one.
