Targeted Fusion–Guided Biopsy May Improve Detection of High-Risk Prostate Cancer

Despite the evolution of standard prostate-biopsy technology, one of the major challenges with current methods continues to be a large degree of sampling error, which translates into missing the presence of high-grade prostate cancer. Recent advances in imaging technology have led to the development of targeted magnetic resonance (MR)/ultrasound fusion–guided biopsy, which essentially allows MR images to be superimposed in real time onto transrectal ultrasound images.
