Investigators retrospectively compared the effectiveness of emergency department (ED) migraine treatment regimens for preventing revisits within 3 days of the initial presentation. The analysis included 32,124 children aged 7 to 18 years with a principal diagnosis of migraine who presented to 35 emergency departments participating in the Children's Hospital Association from 2009 to 2012.
Treatments included nonopioid analgesics (66%), dopamine receptor antagonists (50%), diphenhydramine (33%), ondansetron (21%), antiepileptics (9%), corticosteroids (6%), opioids (6%), and triptans (3%).
