Physicians' work is highly demanding, but whether physicians are at elevated risk for divorce is unclear. In this retrospective study, researchers analyzed U.S. census data to compare divorce rates among 49,000 U.S. physicians with those of other healthcare and nonhealthcare professionals.
Adjusted for multiple variables, prevalence of divorce among physicians was 24% — similar to that of dentists; significantly higher than that of pharmacists (23%); and significantly lower than that of nurses (33%), healthcare executives (31%), attorneys (27%), and other nonhealthcare professionals (35%).
