Anticoagulation treatment has been suggested for several vascular conditions, including intracranial atherosclerosis and cervical artery dissection. Anticoagulation already failed to show a benefit in patients with intracranial atherosclerosis in the randomized warfarin versus aspirin for symptomatic intracranial disease study (WASID). Now, researchers have tested the treatment for dissection-related stroke in a randomized trial. They enrolled 250 patients with extracranial carotid or vertebral artery dissection and onset of symptoms within 7 days (average time to randomization, 3.65 days after onset).
