Estimated glomerular filtration rate (GFR) usually is reported in standard laboratory test batteries and is used to detect and stage acute and chronic kidney disease. In this systematic review of about 80 studies, researchers evaluated the evidence supporting GFR assessment and other tests relative to the recommendations of an international guideline organization, Kidney Disease: Improving Global Outcomes (KDIGO).
