In recent years, special devices have been shown to lower the adenoma miss rate during colonoscopy and include the full spectrum endoscopy system (Fuse; EndoChoice), Endocuff (Arc Medical), and EndoRings (Endo-Aid). The G-EYE system (Smart Medical Systems) has the CE Mark in Europe but is currently not FDA-approved for use in the U.S. This device is a permanent add-on balloon used in Pentax colonoscopes that is situated a few centimeters back from the colonoscope tip. The balloon is deflated during insertion and, after reaching the cecum, it is inflated and used to flatten haustral folds to improve mucosal exposure.
