Pediatric mastocytosis differs from adult mastocytosis clinically, prognostically, and perhaps genetically. In children, the most common forms are solitary mastocytoma and urticaria pigmentosa (UP). Diffuse cutaneous mastocytosis (DCM) is uncommon. Mast cell sarcoma (MCS), mast cell leukemia (MCL), and telangiectasia macularis eruptiva perstans are very rare in children. Recently, pediatric mastocytosis was linked to mutations in c-Kit and considered a clonal disease; however, most children have a benign course with eventual spontaneous regression.
