Whether patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) and a very low CHA2DS2-VASc score benefit from anticoagulation is unclear. The Danish National Registry study is the third large registry analysis of the topic published this year (NEJM JW Cardiol Mar 2015 and J Am Coll Cardiol 2015; 65:225 and 233; NEJM JW Cardiol May 2015 and J Am Coll Cardiol 2015; 65:635 and 643). In this registry, 39,400 patients were discharged with a diagnosis of nonvalvular AF and a CHA2DS2-VASc score of 0 or 1 — 5353 on aspirin, 10,475 on warfarin, and 23,572 on neither.
