The comparative efficiency of different snares used in endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR) has not been assessed. To address this issue, investigators conducted an industry-funded study, randomizing 140 patients with lesions >15 mm to undergo EMR with a combination injection needle and snare in a single device (i-Snare; U.S. Endoscopy) or with a 25-mm oval braided snare (SnareMaster, Olympus). Patients were also randomized to receive an injectate solution of saline or hydroxypropyl methylcellulose.
