A comprehensive literature review and formal utilization of the Grades of Recommendation Assessment, Development and Evaluation system were utilized to develop guidelines for the management of asymptomatic neoplastic pancreatic cysts.
In contrast with previous guidelines, recommendations emphasize the existing evidence (such as it is), rather than expert opinion, and recommend less use of endoscopic ultrasonography with fine-needle aspiration (EUS-FNA), less frequent surveillance of patients with pancreatic cysts, and a much higher bar for considering surgical resection.
