Cold snaring is increasingly popular for removing small and diminutive colorectal polyps. In a first-of-its-kind randomized trial, investigators compared the effectiveness of a snare specifically designed for cold snaring with a standard snare for removing polyps ≤10 mm. The dedicated cold snare (Exacto cold snare, US Endoscopy) has a thin wire, a 9 mm diameter, and cannot be used for hot snaring (it is noninsulated). The control snare was the Olympus 10-mm SnareMaster.
Ninety-eight polyps were resected in the Exacto arm and 112 polyps in the SnareMaster arm; the mean polyp size was about 6.5 mm in each arm. The resected specimens were assessed on the lateral margins to determine completeness of resection, and the pathologists were blinded t…
