The 2013 American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association (ACC/AHA) guidelines on statin use to prevent atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) have been criticized for overestimating ASCVD risk, especially in older patients (NEJM JW Gen Med Apr 15 2015 and Ann Intern Med 2015; 162:266).
