Prolonged pregnancy (delivery at or beyond 41 weeks) is associated with maternal and neonatal morbidity, but the underlying causes of this condition are unclear. To determine whether cervical length is associated with pregnancy duration, researchers at one institution conducted a retrospective cohort study involving 9165 nulliparous women with singleton pregnancies.
Participants were stratified into quartiles based on second-trimester cervical length as determined with transvaginal ultrasound (median length by quartile, 3.6, 4.1, 4.5, and 5.3 cm).
