In
HIV and ID Observations, Dr. Paul Sax describes an important HIV-related study presented at ICAAC.
In the open-label STRIIVING study presented at the 2015 Interscience Conference on Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy (ICAAC), 85% of patients who switched to fixed-dose combination abacavir/dolutegravir/3TC maintained virologic suppression at 24 weeks, compared with 88% of those who continued on their current antiretroviral regimens. According to Dr. Paul Sax in the latest HIV and ID Observations blog post, switching to this new single-tablet treatment will usually be successful (especially virologically), but a small fraction of patients might have side effects that make them prefer what they've already been on.
