Peptic ulcer bleeding (PUB) usually involves lesions induced by Helicobacter pylori infection, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) use, or both. As the prevalence of H. pylori infection decreases in some developed countries, the incidence of idiopathic (i.e., non–H. pylori, non-NSAID) ulcers seems to be increasing.
To examine the influence of ulcer etiology on the clinical characteristics of PUB, investigators retrospectively evaluated the records of 232 patients admitted with PUB to a single hospital in Seoul, South Korea, between 2006 and 2012.
