The Yunus and Masi criteria for diagnosing juvenile fibromyalgia (JFM) are 30 years old and require identification of tender points on physical exam. In 2010, the American College of Rheumatology revised its adult fibromyalgia criteria, recommending clinician-administered tools for assessing pain in 19 body regions, symptoms, and symptom severity, while eliminating identification of tender points by physical exam. To evaluate whether the 2010 adult criteria could be applied to pediatric patients, investigators studied a convenience sample of 47 adolescent girls (mean age, 15 years; 95% white) with active disease meeting the Yunus/Masi JFM criteria and a control group of 48 age-matched girls with localized pain.
