The rate of metachronous gastric cancer after endoscopic resection of the initial tumor is approximately 3% per year, but the risk for metachronous neoplasms after resection of gastric adenomas is not known. Korean investigators retrospectively reviewed records of 1647 patients who had a gastric neoplasm removed endoscopically (endoscopic mucosal resection or dissection) between 2005 and 2013.
One third of the patients were lost to follow-up in the first year. Other exclusions left 947 patients for follow-up. These patients underwent annual surveillance endoscopy with variable compliance.
