Vaccination-Related Content on Obstetric Practice Websites Is Scanty

For pregnant women, a strong recommendation from their healthcare provider is the biggest determinant of the decision to receive influenza and tetanus toxoid, reduced diphtheria toxoid, and acellular pertussis (Tdap) vaccines. Investigators reviewed a random sample of U.S. obstetric practice websites (all publicly listed on http://www.healthgrades.com) and assessed their health content regarding antenatal immunizations as well as other pregnancy-related health topics.

Of 1003 reviewed websites, only 23% provided vaccine-specific information and only 11% contained current recommendations. In contrast, 41% provided information on safe foods, 37% on safe medications, and 39% on safe exercise during pregnancy. Practices that provided information…
