In HIV-infected organ transplant recipients, graft and patient survival rates and infectious complications compare favorably to those in HIV-negative, high-risk transplant recipients. Therefore, organ transplantation has become more widely available for individuals with HIV and end-stage liver or kidney disease. However, the impact of organ transplantation in transplant recipients versus candidates who were not transplanted has not been well described.
