Recent evidence on the value of chromoendoscopy in surveillance colonoscopy for inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) has been mixed (NEJM JW Gastroenterol Sep 2015 and Am J Gastroenterol 2015 110:1014). However, randomized controlled trials and current guidelines favor chromoendoscopy, in conjunction with high-definition colonoscopy, for detecting dysplasia in patients with IBD (NEM JW Gastroenterol May 2015 and Gastrointest Endosc 2015; 81:489).
