The success and clinical outcomes of endoscopic resection of subepithelial tumors (ERST) have been reported only in small case series. Now, investigators in China have retrospectively reviewed the technical success and complications of ERST in 726 consecutive patients with 733 gastrointestinal subepithelial tumors between June 2005 and December 2014. Standard endoscopic resection was performed on 536 tumors, and submucosal tunneling was used for 197 tumors.
Complete resection was accomplished in 97.1% of tumors. Complications occurred in 12.9% of patients (12.1% with perforations, 1.8% with perioperative bleeding, 0.7% with localized peritonitis, and 0.1% with delayed bleeding). Subsequent surgery was performed in 1.5% of patients. Other pat…
