More patients are undergoing prosthetic joint replacement. Infection is a persistent complication, particularly from Staphylococcus aureus. Small studies have suggested that from 30% to 40% of prosthetic joint infections occur at the time of S. aureus bacteremia (SAB). To identify clinical predictors for SAB-associated prosthetic joint infections, researchers used data from a previously published study on SAB to examine the relationship between this infection and subsequent prosthetic joint infection.
