The emphasis on defining quality performance standards continues to grow in all aspects of healthcare delivery.
To develop validated quality measures for performance and interpretation of esophageal manometry — the gold standard for evaluation of esophageal motor and function abnormalities — researchers convened a 14-member expert panel. Using the RAND University of California Los Angeles Appropriateness Methodology, they compiled 29 potential quality-of-care measures. Of these, eight measures were ultimately deemed appropriate by consensus and defined as follows:
