Multiple randomized controlled trials have established the efficacy of endovascular thrombectomy for proximal anterior-circulation occlusion stroke. However, some trials were stopped early, and individual trials were each modestly sized so estimates of the absolute effect size in each trial have varied. Furthermore, the ability to identify potential differences in treatment effects in certain subpopulations is limited because of the restricted numbers from these subgroups that were enrolled into each study. Therefore, investigators from five trials (MR CLEAN, ESCAPE, REVASCAT, SWIFT PRIME, and EXTEND IA) convened to contribute individual patient-level data from 1287 trial participants for an industry-funded pooled meta-analysis.
