Background
About half of older adults (age, ≥65) undergo annual eye exams of some sort. In 2009, the USPSTF issued an “I” statement (i.e., insufficient evidence to recommend for or against) regarding visual acuity screening for older adults in primary care settings (NEJM JW Gen Med Aug 15 2009 and Ann Intern Med 2009; 151:37).
