In the previously published PROMISE trial, approximately 10,000 patients with stable symptoms suggestive of coronary ischemia were randomized to either functional testing (a stress test of the clinician's choice) or anatomic testing (computed tomographic angiography [CTA]; positive tests were defined as stenosis ≥70%). The overall study demonstrated similar outcomes for the two groups (NEJM JW Gen Med Apr 15 2015 and N Engl J Med 2015; 372:1291), but the investigators did not evaluate sex differences in the prognostic value of testing. Now, investigators have assessed whether test results and outcomes differed for men and women.
