In 2015, several high-profile acute stroke trials were published that demonstrated the value of endovascular acute stroke intervention. Now, researchers have performed a systematic analysis of trials evaluating mechanical thrombectomy between 5 and 12 hours after onset of acute ischemic stroke. For this analysis, thrombectomy devices had to be used in the trials (as opposed to intra-arterial thrombolysis alone), 90-day follow-up was provided, and at least some of the control group patients received intravenous tissue plasminogen activator (TPA).
