Black people have the highest incidence of colorectal cancer of any racial or ethnic group in the United States and present at an earlier mean age with cancer. They also have higher mortality from colorectal cancer. These poorer outcomes have been attributed to lower rates of screening, lower healthcare utilization resulting in late-stage presentation, and treatment differences. However, substantial research on this topic has yielded mixed findings and a lack of consensus on the causes of these ongoing disparities.
