Active surveillance (AS) is used increasingly as an alternative to immediate treatment (e.g., radical prostatectomy, radiation therapy) for patients with low-risk localized prostate cancer. Recently, Cancer Care Ontario published a guideline entitled “Active Surveillance for the Management of Localized Prostate Cancer” (Can Urol Assoc J 2015; 9:171). ASCO now has formally endorsed most recommendations in that guideline.
