Spondyloarthritis includes a broad group of inflammatory conditions, with ankylosing spondylitis being the most common. The Assessment of Spondyloarthritis International Society recently has reclassified patients without radiographic changes as having spondyloarthritis if they have either (1) the HLA-B27 haplotype plus ≥2 defined clinical features of inflammatory back disease (clinical determination) or (2) radiographs or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) showing sacroiliitis plus ≥1 clinical feature (imaging determination).
