Isavuconazole (ISAV) is a newly approved triazole antifungal agent with a broad spectrum of activity. Oral and intravenous formulations exist as the prodrug isavuconazonium sulfate, which undergoes cleavage in the plasma to the active form. The pharmacokinetic profile is simpler with isavuconazole than with previous triazole antifungals.
Now, investigators have conducted an industry-funded, multicenter, nonrandomized, open-label, phase III study to test the effectiveness and safety of ISAV as both initial and salvage therapy in patients with cryptococcosis or dimorphic mycoses.
