WHO recommends a minimum 600 metabolic equivalent (MET) minutes weekly for health benefits (e.g., walking briskly [4.3 METs] for 30 minutes for 5 days each week). However, we know little about dose-response relations between physical activity and risks for various diseases. In this systematic review and meta-analysis of 174 articles, researchers quantified dose-response associations between total physical activity (including both leisure and work-related activity) and risks for diabetes, ischemic heart disease, ischemic stroke, and breast and colon cancer.
