In the last several months, it has become clear that Zika virus can be transmitted not only by mosquito but also sexually. A recent report seems to confirm bidirectional transmission. Guidelines developed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for preventing sexual transmission of Zika virus are aimed at avoiding spread by travelers, especially to females who may be or become pregnant. Until now, investigation has always shown symptoms indicative of Zika virus infection in the transmitting partner.
