Blue-light laser imaging has been developed for Fuji film instruments and illuminates the colon with laser-generated light of wave lengths suitable for standard colonic inspection and highlighting of blood vessels, similar to the Olympus Narrow Band Imaging (NBI) mode. Blue-laser imaging is available in a bright mode to prevent the image from becoming too dark as the inspection distance between the endoscope and the mucosa increases.
In the current study, eight expert endoscopists with experience in both NBI and blue-laser imaging participated in a modified tandem study. Patients were randomized to inspection of the colon by segment in either blue laser or white light, and received a second inspection of each segment by white light.
