To clarify the validity of the convention that post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) has a delayed onset of action after extreme stress, researchers in an Australian, prospective, 1-year study interviewed 1138 patients about a week after a traumatic event (e.g., vehicle crash, assault, fall, work injury) leading to admission to a trauma center; 490 had mild traumatic brain injuries. At the 1-year telephone follow-up of 838 patients, 82 were given PTSD diagnoses.
