Myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) is clinically and genetically heterogeneous and is curable only by allogeneic stem-cell transplantation (SCT). To analyze the association between genetic markers in MDS cells and patient outcomes, investigators performed a retrospective review comparing pretransplant genetic profiles with rates of relapse and survival.
The researchers analyzed 2005–2014 data in the Center for International Blood and Marrow Transplantation Research Repository to identify 1514 eligible MDS patients with <20% bone marrow blasts who underwent allogeneic SCT. Mutational analysis encompassing 129 myeloid-relevant gene sequences was performed on samples obtained prior to SCT.
