Combining chromoendoscopy with obtaining targeted biopsies is superior to obtaining random colon biopsies for detection of dysplasia. To determine the value of augmenting chromoendoscopy and targeted biopsies with continuation of random biopsies (4 quadrant biopsies taken every 10 cm), investigators conducted a prospective, multicenter, cohort study in which 1000 colonoscopies were performed in 1000 patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD; 505 with Crohn disease and 495 with ulcerative colitis).
