Based on evidence from two systematic reviews, an expert task force updated the original 2008 guidelines.
1. Diagnosis
Children ≥2 years of age are overweight if body-mass index (BMI) is ≥85th percentile but <95th percentile for age and sex; obese if BMI is ≥95%; extremely obese if BMI is ≥120% of the 95th percentile, or ≥35 kg/m2.
Children <2 years of age are obese if weight for recumbent length on World Health Organization growth charts is ≥97.7th percentile.
