Full-spectrum endoscopy (FUSE) was superior to forward-viewing colonoscopy (FVC) in an initial tandem study of polyp detection in patients without inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), but not in a randomized trial of lesion detection in people with a positive fecal immunochemical test. The utility of FUSE in patients with IBD is unknown.
In a manufacturer-funded tandem study conducted in Australia, 52 patients with colonic IBD (23 with Crohn disease and 29 with ulcerative colitis) undergoing surveillance for dysplasia were randomized to undergo FUSE or FVC first, immediately followed by the alternate procedure.
