As a physician assistant in training, Emily Moore was shocked by an adolescent patient's openness about his drug use, even while sitting next to his mother. She learned two things that day: that her white coat held power, and that adolescents will talk if you ask the right questions. After years of experience, she has also discovered the importance of starting conversations about drug use and risk behaviors early — with both kids and parents — and of using her platform to educate patients and their families to keep kids from getting addicted. She shares her experiences in this week's In Practice blog post.
