For ischemic strokes that are caused by a proximal anterior-circulation large vessel occlusion, several clinical trials have demonstrated improved short-term (90-day) functional outcomes with endovascular treatment. Now, investigators report 2-year clinical outcomes for patients that were enrolled in the partially manufacturer-funded Multicenter Randomized Clinical Trial of Endovascular Treatment for Acute Ischemic Stroke in the Netherlands (MR CLEAN; NEJM JW Neurol Dec 17 2014 and N Engl J Med 2015; 372:11).
