In HIV and ID Observations, Dr. Paul Sax reveals the most serious infectious threat to IV drug users (and it's not HIV or hep C).

Dr. Paul Sax has a conversation with his daughter that exposes a major gap in the lay public's understanding of the risks of injection drug use. For whatever reason, he explains in the latest HIV and ID Observations blog post, endocarditis and other invasive bacterial infections are not nearly as feared as HIV and HCV, despite the fact that the former are far more immediately life threatening and way more difficult to treat.
