Determining trends in juvenile diabetes is key to understanding the impact of the disease on the health of pediatric populations. Now, investigators in the prospective SEARCH for Diabetes in Youth study have estimated recent trends in incidence of diabetes among 14,091 youths (<20 years of age) who received a diagnosis of type 1 or type 2 diabetes at five major clinical centers from 2002 through 2012. Trends were reported for the five major U.S. racial and ethnic groups: non-Hispanic white, non-Hispanic black, Hispanic, Asian or Pacific Islander, and Native American.
